Larry Laverty
Larry Laverty completed 30 years as a Hollywood actor before turning his undivided attention to wildlife photography and conservation.
Having been given a small camera at age 5 by his parents, photography has been ever-present throughout Laverty’s life. Along the way, he was a contributing photojournalist to a newspaper, Oakland California’s MacArthur Metro, for which he also wrote a column. But it wasn’t until he became activated as a voice for Africa’s elephants that his photography found worldwide appreciation.
To date, Laverty has spent just under a year of his life in the bush and in the jungle with Africa’s elephants, studying and photographing their lives. Numerous conservation organizations around the world have utilized Laverty’s images in their campaigns. Countless images decorate the homes of appreciative elephant lovers. He accepts speaking engagements featuring his images, presenting them to groups of all ages and sizes. And in late 2019 his first table-top photo book will be published, entitled “Power and Majesty: The Plight and Preservation of the African Elephant.”
